I got home last night at 6ish and decided not to unpack or go buy groceries...I opened the suitcases so I guess I am making progress. I had my first two classes today and they appeared to go well. The first day of law school classes is not a fluff day where you just get the syllabus and go. I had assignments emailed to me and of course I didn't get my books until today so luckily the assignments were easy to do without them...Not that it really matters though. While it is a full class lecture the professors don't usually start the Socratic method until the 2ndish week...And unlike last semester where we never really got the Socratic method, I have at least 2 professors that almost exclusively use it. I'm not really that concerned though because I do all the assignments and work before class so I am always prepared, I just don't like to speak up in class. I would much rather have a one on one conversation with the professor.
I thought that I would get a first week break from reading but I have about 20ish pages per class already and I am starting to remember how boring case books really are. I am pretty sure I spent 10 minutes reading one paragraph over and over because I couldn't concentrate...And I had to read the constitution today and I just realized that the word choose used to be spelled chuse. So now on if it appears that I have made a spelling error you can just assume that it is how the founding fathers spelled it and it is actually correctly spelled.
I think I am going to start a list of everything that should be mandatory in all law school classes adding to it once or so a week...Mostly for my own comedic relief and to fill space in the blog so I don't feel quite so bad for glossing over my week...
Laws of Law school
1. No cases from before 1900 should be assigned.
2. Socratic method should be used only on gunners.
3. Name tent cards should be used for 1 week and if by then the professor hasn't memorized names he or she has to provide food and beverage to the class.
